Our ReviewAn all villa resort in a unique setting on a secluded beautiful bay - the perfect hideaway .
Zighy Bay is located on a headland on the northern Musandam Peninsula in the Sultanate of Oman, best reached from Dubai rather than Muscat. A 2 hour drive from Dubai Airport finds you arriving at the mountain top with the breathtaking sight of Zighy Bay below you. The resort is designed to look like a traditional Omani fishing village, admittedly one that has wonderful restaurants and private pools for each home!! Keeping in mind the Evasion Hideaway theme of Innovative Style the villas are designed in a rustic chic way but with everything you would expect from a five star hotel. Even the opening villa has plenty of room enabling you to feel that your villa is your home from home. The bedroom leads onto a good size veranda perfect for in-villa dining and this in turns leads down to your private 'garden' and swimming pool. Being in the desert your garden is sand rather than greenery! Having your own pool (although it is more of a good size plunge pool than a swimming pool) is spot on if you are traveling with babies. To be able to tuck you little one into its beautiful wooden cot in your villa while lying out on your terrace sunbathing and swimming is so much more relaxing than running back and forth with a monitor. Once the little one wakes up, they too if anything like my daughter love being able to cool off in their own pool. Your sandy garden provides a great mini beach for babies and toddlers without worrying about them rushing of to dip into the sea. Of course there are huge dangers of having your own pool once your little one can walk so it’s important you bear this in mind before traveling with toddlers. The long sandy beach again is very popular with little monkey's providing lots of space for sand castles, crawling and generally running around. The wonderful staff were fantastic with children and very accommodating to whatever you need to make your stay more comfortable. There are numerous options for dining, food is taken very seriously at Zighy Bay and is excellent. In-villa dining set up on your own table rather than room service on your lap is a great way to enjoy dinner while the babies are sleeping without needing a babysitter. NB: Worth bearing in mind it does get very hot in the summer months which young babies may find very uncomfortable, best time to go is from October until April.
Total: 82 villas each with its own pool and varying in size and location including beach front.
Pool Villas 247 sqm (82 sqm internal) - 2 Adults & 2 children
Pool Villa Suites 412 sqm (126 sqm internal) Separate bedroom and living room - 2 adults, 2 children & 1 cot
Zighy Pool Villas 334 sqm (161 sqm internal) - 4 adults, 1 child, 2 cots
FAMILY ROOMS… Minimum room types for families are the Pool Villas which can accommodate 2 adults and 2 children. The Pool Villa’s can also be inter-connecting. Where children are sharing with parents they will be on a sofa bed. All rooms have plenty of space and can easily fit an extra cot. The Pool villa suites have a separate bedroom and sitting room which is ideal if you want children to sleep in a separate room. The beach front villas, whilst more expensive, do mean you can walk straight out of your villa and on to the beach - great if you have young children you otherwise have to carry!
Things to do
THINGS TO DO FOR PARENTS…Zighy Bay is all about relaxing and hence the Six Senses Spa is a focal point here. For the more active there is Non-motorized water-sports, like snorkelling and diving, kayaking, water skiing and wake boarding. Mountain trekking and biking, guided OFF-ROAD excursions. Tandem Paragliding and flying a Micro light Aircraft! Dive Centre, managed and operated by ‘Extra Divers Worldwide’, offering unique underwater experiences and impressions as part of diving trips and courses.
I’M BORED (…& for children)… Swimming, beach activities and generally sitting around looking angelic!
CHILDREN’S CLUB…Zighy Bay does not have a Kids Club but can provide a variety of activities for children of all ages (i.e. beach football, hiking and exploring, colouring books, movie night etc.
SUITABLE FOR…Perfect for families with non-mobile babies. It is not suitable if you have a crawling or walking child likely to fall down the villa steps or into the pool. Older children may get bored as this is quite a chill out hotel
ARE WE THERE YET?...2 hour drive from Dubai International Airport.
I’M HUNGRY…The hotel can provide children’s menus as well as infant food. Children are not allowed into “Sense on the Edge” (due to the location) but all other restaurants will accept children.
BABYSITTING & COST…Must have 24 hrs notice. Costs are US$15 per hour (approx £11).
COSTS FOR CHILDREN…The rate for Pool villas and Pool Suite is based on 4 heartbeats sharing. 5th heartbeat is charged at extra person rate: Children 0-6 yrs are accommodated free of charge, 7 – 11 yrs minimal charge and 12 yrs+ are approx $120 when sharing with parents.
PRICES FROM…US$355.00 per person per night (approx £229.00) in a Pool Villa on B&B
WHAT YOU DON’T NEED TO PACK… The hotel can provide microwaves, highchairs, baby steamers, baby bottles, nappies.
RAMADAN…Ramadan period (1st – 30th September) Alcohol will not be served during the day in restaurants or on excursions such as the dhow cruises. In the evening alcohol is available in the Bar 85. Drinks are also available in your Villa's wine cellar and minibar.
ALGAE BLOOM…It is worth noting that the annual 'Red Tide' or algae bloom that can discolour the water and the beach and produces an unpleasant smell normally occurs between July and September. However the severity of this differs every year and the timings can also change from one year to the next.
HAZARDS…It is worth noting that each villa has an open pool and 5 stone steps down to your day sala so toddlers will need to be watched.

- Sense on the Edge - mountain-top fine dining
- Spice Market - main restuarant serving culinary delights in Arabic flavours

We loved every minute of it.

We had an amazing time and it was lovely for Ravi’s first holiday – perfect. The villas were outstanding, stylishly decorated and so beautiful and having your own private pool was wonderful. It meant that Ravi could swim and cry to his hearts content and get all the confidence he needed. What particularly stood out was the staff. They were so attentive (without being in your face) and so friendly. They loved Ravi and entertained him and hugged him as much as they could whilst juggling with their work They also went out of their way to puree food for him. The hotel is also great to push the buggy around and get your child to sleep (note: some paths to rooms are sand). I would say that for our aged child the hotel was perfect but it might be quite boring for a child who was able to run around as there is just the beach to keep them happy. The room was great but it does have stone floors so if a child should fall it would be quite hard. They also provided a beautiful cot. Our only feedback would be that we would have loved to have seen a bit more variety on the menus. Other than that, I can honestly say that we had the best room service we have ever had. We had in-villa dining for 3 nights. What a stunning resort and a stunning county. It was perfect for our needs, romantic for us but somewhere we can also spoil Ravi.

A very relaxing and spoiling place to stay

The staff appeared to really enjoy having a baby around and gave our daughter lots of attention. They were really willing to help such as heating up milk, providing a high chair for breakfast, allowed us to take the pram into the restaurant while we had dinner and even pushed the pram around one evening while she was a little unsettled so that we could enjoy our supper! It was excellent having our own plunge pool and terrace so that we could enjoy the sun while she slept and it was nice to be in our own villa so if she cried no one else would hear. The banana hut/gazebo in our garden was an excellent place for her to play in the shade during the day. It was easy to push the pram around the hotel – to the beach, main pool, restaurants etc. As a fairly new mother it was a very relaxing and spoiling place to stay. The spa was excellent. I think older children could get a bit bored here with just the beach and if you did take your children I don’t think you would get much of a break from them. While there is a babysitting service I didn’t notice any children’s clubs or any activities or games room for children. In your room I think that the slate plunge pool and its surrounding area that was right outside our bedroom might be unsuitable for toddlers or any children likely to run and slip. I would also worry about having a pool so close to the bedroom doors. This obviously depends on what your children are like. A babysitting service is available. We didn’t use it as during the day as we were happy to look after her and it was lovely that we could sunbathe on our own terrace while she slept or played in the shade. In the evening we always took her in her pram to the dining room as she slept. I was surprised to hear that if we were to have a babysitter it would have been one of the waitresses rather than a particular person with relevant qualifications and experience. However, as all of the staff seemed very nice I am sure I would have used this service if we had needed it. While I am sure well–behaved children would be fine in this hotel it isn’t outwardly geared towards children which worked perfectly for us.

We had a wonderful time – what a great hotel

Zighy Bay were extremely conscientious and flexible about food - and would prepare, on demand, a wide variety of children/baby food (purees, vegetable sticks, etc.) and would alter type of food to our requests. Also - very happy to provide extra baby kit as well as clean and sterilise all baby equipment. (also very understanding about allergies etc.) Additionally, the hotel (and guests) seemed very relaxed about letting baby eat with us in the restaurants at all meals (providing high chair and food too). There is a children’s menu but we didn’t use it as Fergus is too young. There were plenty of other parents there with babies so we didn’t feel out of the ordinary. The staff were exceptionally kind and also very sweet with our baby son: eg. the waiters/waitresses would often take him off our hands for moments during meals to cuddle him and walk around with him. There wasn’t anything we could think of that made our room unsuitable for children. It is worth noting that the sandy paths make it a bit tricky with a buggy (but that is only a minor quibble). The hotel were able to provide cots, mats, sterilising. Although there was baby sitting we didn’t use it as we took Fergus with us to all meals. We thought the staff were incredibly welcoming and the hotel was very relaxing for us whilst not being too family oriented. We will definitely be back! (and return to Ultimate Family Hideaways too.) We have been looked after so well. Many thanks
