Our Review

The Grand Dame of Africa’s hotels.

Nestling at the foot of Table Mountain and set in nine acres of lush gardens, the Mount Nelson Hotel is one of Cape Town’s most elegant hotels offering unparalleled tradition, history and luxury. For us this hotel has wonderful family memories from when we stayed here as children. It isn’t your typical family hotel and is old style upright and smart but it has wonderful rooms, great food and a huge pool right in the middle of Cape Town. They are very used to dealing with children and it is a great base for exploring Cape Town. It is the large beautiful landscaped gardens which make the Mount Nelson so perfect for younger children as city hotels often have very limited space around the pool. However at the Mount Nelson you can lie on your sunbed and let you little ones crawl, run or play tea parties next to you without disturbing other guests as there is plenty of space. The hotel is located just a ten minutes walk from the city centre and is perfectly located for visits to the National Botanical Gardens, Table Mountain and the V&A Waterfront. The rooms and suites are in four individual accommodation wings, each with its own unique character and gardens. Many of the rooms have recently been redecorated and are looking fantastic. The Mount Nelson is famous for its sumptuous afternoon teas which are always a hit with children but we also highly recommend visiting the newly refurbished Planet Bar for its delicious cocktails when the younger members of the team are tucked up in bed. If you can refrain one night from eating out the Mount Nelson has two very good restaurants of its own.
