Our Review

Ant’s Hill & Ant’s Nest provide a fantastic family safari adventure in a malaria free area.Privately owned and excellently run with friendly staff and an array of activities to keep young and old entertained for hours, Ant’s Hill & Ant’s Nest will provided a life-changing experience for the youngest members of your family. Unique for a safari lodge, Ants Nest allows children of all ages to join their parents on all game viewing encounters. Children are incredibly well looked after and babysitting can be arranged at no cost, however this is a lodge where families are encouraged to do things together so you can delight in your child’s excitement as they discover the wonders of Africa. Game drives can be taken in normal game vehicles, however they also offer a more exciting way to see game – by horseback. They have a good selection of wonderful ponies catering from the novice to the experienced child rider. This is a game lodge that really does offer complete flexibility, there are no set wake up times or strict itineraries, you can do what you want when you want. You are not forced to eat with other guests if you don’t want to. Children are incredibly well looked after but in a home from home way rather than an all singing, dancing kids club. Ant’s Nest offers a real home from home experience. Great pride is taken in the lodge’s sumptuous home cooking, dining in a variety of places and outside whenever possible. Morning game activities are often finished with a bush lunch, whilst at night guests sit around open fires under the stars. Children are welcome to join their parents for dinner perhaps followed by toasting marshmallows on the open braai and normally ending with them falling asleep on one of the big sofas watched over by one of the family’s Labradors while you have a drink under the stars. Both Ants Hill and Ants Nest can be taken either exclusively or on a room by room basis. Ants Hill - Built on the edge of a cliff, this bush home offers breathtaking views across the Waterberg. With spacious rooms and vast folding doors, the thatched lodge blends into the bush, while exotic furniture and brightly coloured African fabrics make it both sophisticated and comfortable. Set in boulders on the edge of the cliff, the heated swimming pool cascades over the lip of the gorge, inducing you to relax there for hours. The main lodge boasts a vast living area and dining room, both with fireplaces. A spacious veranda and deck overhang the gorge so are ideal for early morning breakfasts and evening sundowners. To top it all Ants’ Hill overlooks a waterhole frequently visited by a variety of game. Ants Nest - Lying in a natural amphitheatre the original homestead, with its wide verandas, has a classic, relaxed, African atmosphere. A wide variety of game frequents the waterhole in front of the bush home where horses and dogs abound. A stylish warmth exists in the colonial house using classic furniture fashioned from local fabrics, timber and stone. The six luxurious en-suite bedrooms accommodate a maximum of twelve guests. There is a lovely swimming pool in the garden surrounded by beautiful lawns, ideal for little ones to crawl around on, there are plenty of inflatable pool toys for children and a great sand pit. ON SAFARI This is not a big five game experience. They do have Rhino and Buffalo and the occasional Leopard passing through but not Elephant or Lion, these makes it a safer environment for bush walks and for riding. There is plenty of game to make game viewing exciting, the reserve has over 40 species including giraffe, white rhino, sable antelope, buffalo, gemsbok, kudu, eland, zebra and waterbuck to name just a few. There is also great birding. Guests are always welcome to join in on any management activities on the reserves such as game capture and relocation, treating injured animals, burning firebreaks, game census on horseback etc.
