Our ReviewThe Andaman’s elegant sister. Set on the jungle covered hillside above their private beach this is ‘The’ hotel to stay at on Langkawi and one of our favourite ‘adults’ hotel which will also accept children.
We loved it, it’s beautiful, the food is delicious, the beach is edible, the pools are elegant and the staff are dreamy (or words to that effect). Having been carved out of the jungle the hotel has a completely different, more natural feel to it then the hotels with perfectly manicured gardens. The rooms, housed in the main two wings of the hotel, look out past the Olympian sized adults only swimming pool, over the jungle to the sea beyond. The rooms are stylishly decorated in a contemporary Asian style, each with a small balcony. The freestanding villas are dotted along the hillside in the heart of the jungle. Each villa has a good size balcony but the abundance of jungle does mean your view and perhaps more importantly the amount of sun you receive is quite limited. Some villas come complete with private plunge pool, which also doubles up as a Jacuzzi – a lovely idea and very spoiling, ideal to cool off in rather than too sunbathe around. It is worth noting these rooms are in the jungle so can get quiet hot. The Andaman is really the family hotel of the two having better children’s facilities and a Kids Club but for parents of one child who don’t need these extras and want to stay away from ‘family’ hotels this is a great hotel. Inca was very happy here and the staff were fantastic with her. There is a good child’s menu and although the main pool is adults only the beach pool is perfect for children and just next to the beach so they have the best of both worlds. It is a lovely walk through the jungle to the Beach Bar, Beachside Pool and the wonderful sweeping private beach they share with their sister hotel the Andaman. If you don’t fancy the walk there is always a golf buggy instead. One of the strengths of the Malaysian hotels is their delicious food and the Datai is no exception, with three exceptional restaurants of its own plus the three at the Andaman with food ranging from Pan Asian to Mediterranean you are spoilt for choice. The elegant adults’ only pool is a haven of tranquility while the smaller pool by the beach provides an informal setting for a dip before sampling a couple of cocktails at the poolside bar.
TOP TIP The hotel can also provide babysitters at one of the most reasonable costs of any hotel we have stayed at. As they are so cheap it is well worth having them for a few hours during the day to give you time out to relax. As at the Andaman the Malaysian staff are wonderful, both friendly and helpful. Which is just as well as we didn’t want anything to put us off this lovely hotel. All in all this is probably our favourite hotel in Malaysia.

Things to do
THINGS TO DO FOR PARENTS… You can explore the island of Langkawi, play golf on the hotel’s lovely course, or just chill out on their huge beach. The is also a Spa, tennis courts and watersports available
I’M BORED (& for children)… Swimming and making sand castles
CHILDREN’S CLUB… This hotel does not offer a Kids Club.
SUITABLE FOR… As a quieter hotel it suits quieter children. We think it is a great option for new parents on their first trip away or for those who don't want or need lots of other families around. Please note it can be quite a walk between the beach and the main hotel up the hill. However we always used the complimentary buggy shuttle and had no problems with this.
ARE WE THERE YET?... Fly to KL or Singapore and take an internal flight up to Langkawi. The hotel is then an easy ½ hour drive from the airport.
I’M HUNGRY… The hotel does provide children’s menus and children are allowed in all restaurants.
BABY SITTING & COSTS… Must have 24 hrs notice. Cost RM10 per child per hour (approx £2) and RM20 per hour after midnight (approx £4).
COSTS FOR CHILDREN… Children 0-12yrs are accommodated free of charge if sharing with parents.
PRICES FROM… RM1530 per room per night (approx £263.00) in a Deluxe Room on Room Only.
WHAT DON’T YOU NEED TO PACK… The hotel can provide nappies and baby wipes are available at the gift shop. The hotel can also provide highchairs, however we would recommend taking everything you need with you.

The Datai was incredible, just what we were looking for.
Service - staff were the best we have ever come across, better even than the One and Only Reeti Rah. Not only were they extremely helpful but they were very friendly with babies/children. They would always try and make our son smile when he was crying Food - this was amazing, and they could make anything we wanted and were very flexible with their menus. Hotel location - I loved the rainforest and quiet beach Rooms - the villas were a great size with big bathrooms, so you can get ready without disturbing the children if they are sleeping. Baby sitters - these were great, listened to your instructions, were trustworthy and at a very reasonable cost. The beach - a lovely beach with plenty of shade. we will be going back next year! It obviously helps going off peak, as the hotel was only 30% occupied. So you should recommend families to go after Easter. It does rain then, but for us it was good, as it goes cooler and more shade.
