Our Review

A Villa or a Hotel? This is the question we often ask ourselves when taking the family away. But with Settlers Beach you have the best of both worlds. You have the flexibility of a villa with its own kitchen whilst having all the services including room service and a great restaurant which you want in a hotel. If you are like us then having someone else do the washing up, cleaning and cooking is what makes a holiday away from home feel like a proper break. At Settlers you get all that but if you want a cup of tea at 5 am when you first little darling wakes you up, or they want a bowl of cereal before the hotel restaurant opens then having your own kitchen is a god send. The rooms are sweet and simply with light colours and each has its own sun beds outside for those moments when you need to be within earshot of the afternoon nappers. Barbados hotels are typically short on space as the West coast is the sheltered one so space is at a premium. At Settlers they have a large lawn in the middle of the hotel around which all the rooms are dotted. This gives you a great sense of space then most of the others hotels on this coast. They also have a lovely pool in the centre for those not wanting the beach. The beach is small and sweet with blue blue water. Like all of the Barbados west coast the beaches are very narrow and almost disappear at high tide which is something that needs to be bourne in mind with families needing the space to play on. One of the main benefits to Barbados is being able to get out and about to some of the seriously good local restaurants. It is easier here than in almost any other destination we feature. From Settlers Beach you can even take your buggy out to a number of delicious options near by.Please note the hotel is normally closed from the end of August till the middle of October.

Rooms

Total: 22 two-bedroom villas and 1 bedroom apartment.

The two-bedroom villas come in two styles: • Bungalow (9) – single storey villas with separate master bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms • Townhouse (13) – two storey villas with inter-connecting bedrooms and ensuite bathrooms on the first floor and main living area on the ground floor.

FAMILY ROOMS… Townhouse style villas have interconnecting door between master bedroom and 2nd bedroom. Bungalow style villas have bedrooms side by side and enter on the patio area. The townhouse is better for families with very young children as the bedrooms interconnect.

    Things to do

THINGS TO DO FOR PARENTS… swimming, swimming lessons, spa, TV lounge, tennis and gym are offsite. For us the benefit for Barbados is the direct flight and the ease of getting out and about to local shops and restaurants.

I’M BORED (…& for children)… Swimming and swimming lessons, beach activities.

    CHILDREN’S CLUB… Settlers beach don’t have a Kids Club.

    Useful Stuff

SUITABLE FOR… All age groups. The lack of a kids club and activities may make it unsuitable for older children.

ARE WE THERE YET?... It is a 45 minute drive from the airport. Please note that in Barbados the hotels don’t do their own transfers preferring instead to use local taxis. These often only have the waist seat belts rather than the shoulder and waist ones common to the UK. This will mean that your car seat won’t fit as well.

I’M HUNGRY… The hotel does not have a room service menu. The main menu has a great selection of foods that the kids will enjoy.

BABY SITTING & COST… Babysitters can be arranged and 24 hours notice is required. The cost for babysitters from 07h00 – 18h00 is US$7.50 per hour (approx £5) and from 18h00 onwards it is US$12.50 (approx £8). Guests who require the babysitter after 23h00 will be required to pay for the ladies transport.

COSTS FOR CHILDREN… There are no discounted costs for children at this hotel.

PRICES FROM… US$624 per villa per night (approx £405.00) in a Garden/Pool Villa on Room Only.

WHAT DON’T YOU NEED TO PACK… The hotel can provide cots, highchairs. The rooms also all have Kitchens. The hotel is connected with a Baby Equipment company and is able to provide most things ie.sterilizers etc. Car seats for transfers can be arranged at an extra charge.
