Our ReviewThe whole family will be blown away by the awe inspiring sight of Mount Kilimanjaro rising over Tortilis Camp . Tortilis Camp sits nestled in an acacia grove at the foot of the majestic, snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro. Luxury tents with private en-suite bathrooms and unrivalled views of the mountain make this the ultimate place from which to get up close & personal with the abundant wildlife, especially Amboseli’s famous land leviathan, the African Elephant. Tortilis Camp is a charming, rustic tented camp, shaded by a natural forest of Acacia Tortilis thorn trees after which the camp is named. The trees and shrubs bustle with bird life, the views seem endless across the plains to Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru in Tanzania. Each tent leads from a bedroom with expansive king-size or generous twin beds, through a dressing area into modern bathrooms with pressured hot showers and flush toilets. Your tent is raised up on a wooden deck and sheltered by a makuti (thatched) roof overhanging a large verandah, ideal for an early afternoon siesta… This is a great place for a safari with children as the camp is in a malaria free area and also has a large pool for them to play in during the day. Also the food is part of the charm here: North Italian traditional recipes from the owner’s family cookbook, complimented by delicious salads and herbs grown in the camp’s own garden. If your children are like ours then delicious Italian food is always a winner. To make your life easy the camp organizes early dinner and wonderful children’s menus to keep the little explorers topped up. Here the whole family will enjoy varied game viewing and can also spend time following the matriarchal elephant herds from the luxury of open sided safari Land Rovers; or walk with a trained Masai guide, sip sundowners on top of Kitirua hill (something soft for the smaller members of the team and something a bit stronger for well deserving parents) as the sun sets colouring the snows of Kilimanjaro pink, bush breakfasts out on the plains or a visit to one of the Masai manyattas (villages) to meet the Masai women, watch the Morans (young warriors) dance and experience their age-old existence.

Things to do
THINGS TO DO FOR PARENTS… Game Drives In 4-Wheel Drive Vehicles , Guided Bush Walks , Swimming Pool, Bush Meals Sundowners , Massage ,Cultural Visits.
I’M BORED (…& for children)… Swimming pool, walks (tracking game, making bows & arrows, identifying ‘dung’ – all the sort of things children really enjoy), bush meals, game drives, cultural visits to the local Masaai villages.
CHILDREN’S CLUB…The bush is the best Kids Club in the world, brought alive by the incredibly experienced guides, and one club parents will want to be a part of too.
Useful StuffSUITABLE FOR... We would recommend a safari here for 5 yrs+. It is worth booking your own vehicle if your children are young as we have found their attention span is quite short and they get tired quickly. This then means you can do things at your own speed (i.e watch a baboon for 30 minutes and have to leave the lion after just 2 mins!!).
ARE WE THERE YET?...Once daily scheduled Air Kenya flight to Amboseli or Private Charter from anywhere
I’M HUNGRY… Children are allowed in all restaurants and areas.
BABYSITTING & COST…The camp is happy to organize an Ayah (babysitters) for small children in the evenings. This will need pre-organising.COSTS FOR CHILDREN… Children under 6yrs are free of charge and 6 – 17 yrs pay a discounted fare.
PRICES FROM… US$570 pppn (approx £368.00) including park fees Full Board (including drinks, bush walks and game drives). Cost for 2 adults and 2 children US$2130 per night (approx £1374) in a family tent on Full Board (including drinks, bush walks and game drives and park fees)
WHAT YOU DON’T NEED TO PACK…You won’t be taking babies so the camp will have most things you will need for older children.
