Our ReviewA tented camp offering an excellent Masai Mara safari experience.Situated on the western border of the Masai Mara National Reserve the camp is located at the foot of the Oloololo Escarpment, on the fringe of a riverine forest, overlooking the plains of the Masai Mara and lies directly in the path of the annual migration of wildebeest and zebra. The larger size of this camp than many we offer is ideally suited for families, being just a bit bigger means they have a lovely large swimming pool set among trees and surrounded by lawns. I remember only to well as a child how boring that midday period between game drives could be when all the adults were taking a siesta and how I longed for a cool pool to splash around in. The spacious tents are decorated in classic safari style with an en-suite loo and shower, the private verandas have lovely views - children will love watching the family of warthogs who wander around the camp. Morning and afternoon game drives are taken in open 4x4 vehicles, like most safari lodges, children under five cannot participate in regular game drives. However the lodge does offer babysitting during the game drives and will try and arrange a shortened game drive at no cost at another time of the day. Another option is to book an exclusive vehicle for your family – then you can enjoy a game drive at a time that suits all the family. Children from the age of five are able to take part in the excellent - specially designed children’s programmes. Every minute is supervised by rangers and camp staff, who provide hours of amusement and invaluable information to the children in their care. Each child receives a backpack filled with surprises including a booklet guiding children on how to protect our planet's precious natural resources in a fun, interactive way. Rangers help children with an abundance of adventures – a guided ‘Poo’ walk always seems to be a high light for the children along with a bug hunt. My earliest memories of a safari are being shown how to spot Scorpions at night using a UV light – whatever it is that your child loves you can be sure they will experience memories that stay with them forever. The lodge limits itself to only two or three families at any one time, meaning that you will never find the place over-run with children. A great safari lodge that combines staying under canvas with all the luxuries you would need.
