Our ReviewHaving heard the reports that one of our favourite boutique hotels (Masseria Cimino) was about to have a bigger sister but one that was aimed families we got rather excited. We love Puglia and have been waiting for more lovely hotels to start up. And it comes from a great pedigree – the owners really know what they are doing. This luxury resort has been lovingly built to resemble a typical Puglian village (admittedly a wonderfully clean, fresh smelling village) with the cream stone that makes the architecture of this area famous. And when they tell you that the architect, in this case Pino Brescia, supervised the construction of every square inch to his exacting standards a natural cynic like me thinks “huh! from his air conditioned Rome office you mean”. But I was proved very wrong when we then met the long hair Pino scrabbling around the almost complete hotel with a bag of stones he had collected in the grounds to add into the mosaics walls around the pool. This attention to detail is evident in the stunning villas, the village and the main hotel. The resort has different options to suit everyone from those who like their hotel rooms and can stay in the main hotel, to those who want a bit of local flavour so can take an apartment in the village or families who want some independence in their own villa but also want the creature comforts which a hotel can provide. All have access to the incredible Kids Club, the huge swimming pools, the 2000 sqm Raison spa, the golf course and the restaurants. Our family favourite is to take one of the 3 bedroomed villas with private pool and garden, wrap around balconies and roof terraces (perfect for an evening sundowner drink when the children have gone to bed). The Kids Club has everything children need from a Creche for tiddlers including beds for their afternoon nap, to an indoor and outdoor secure play area for the older children. They have the run of the 200 hectare estate so the Kids Club organises horse riding, pasta and pizza cookery lessons and even visits to the archaeological digs next door. It is worth noting that we don’t sell this hotel as a beach hotel. They do have a small beach across the golf course where a golf cart shuttle can whisk you for lunch on the beach and they have a beach club ½ mile away on the best bit of beach in Puglia which again has regular shuttles to it but neither is walking distance. But to be honest, if you have a few children, by the time you have grabbed floats, buckets and spades, towels, books, suncream, extra clothes etc you probably want a shuttle to the beach even if it is only 200 yards away. We visited this hotel just before it opened and as yet have not tried the full experience. Like all new hotels there will probably be a few teething problems but we look forward to heading back there for a full review.
