Our Review

If there was ever a competition to see which UFH hotel has the best pool for children then the Masseria Torre Cocoro would be a strong contender. As all parents know the ingredients for a good holiday, as far as children are concern, is a good beach and a good pool. Luckily this charming Puglia former fortified farmhouse has both of these. It doesn’t have a huge number of other children’s facilities but the basics are a good start. Although if you ask Inca then the ducks, chickens, goats and horses on the working farm are a really winner. Similar to its sister hotel the Masseria Torre Maizza the Cocorro has wonderful service, beautiful gardens and delicious locally produced Puglian food. The style is a little less contemporary than the Maizza and is more Pugilan in style but still with whitewashed rooms dotted throughout the grounds. The real joy to a hotel which hasn’t been purpose built is that the rooms are very different from each other. One is even in a cave, as is the stunning spa. But for the ultimate room try the Orange Suite …. Our favourite part of the hotel, other then the stunning grounds awash with bougainvillea, is the pool. Not only is it huge but it slopes very, very gently down so that both crawling infants and toddlers can happily play with you in the shallows with out the worry of them doing a submarine impression. And just as important to any parents with young children - the pool is surrounded by plenty of grass for the children to play on. They have also thoughtfully added a small secure play area with swings, trampoline and slides just next to the pool. As with the Miazza the beach club is just down the road (there is a regular shuttle bus for those who need it) and this has a great restaurant and one of the better Puglia beaches. Open for all hotel guests you can reserve your sun bed and they will even keep your buckets and spades for you and have them waiting on the sun bed the next day! Similar to the Miazza there is no children’s menu but if you have a chat to the kitchen in the morning they will make what ever you need for an early children’s supper (the kitchen normally opens at 7pm) For an Ultimate Hideaway which will welcome children you can’t get much more hideaway then here. Our top tip is to break open the piggy bank and take the Orange Garden suite – it is incredible. Downsides – room service charge for infants food!!

Things to do

THINGS TO DO FOR PARENTS…

The Aveda Spa for a bit of stress relief, some serious chilling at the beach club, golf on the sister hotel’s course, scuba diving, discover Puglia including the baroque city of Lecce and the ‘White’ city of Ostuni. Or explore the Caves of Castellana and visit Cisternino in the evening. The hotel can also organize picnics in ancient olive groves complete with Persian carpets and a waiter! You can also have a day or half day on the hotel’s own yacht or hire your own motor boat. Or take the family on a bike ride to one of the local little sea ports

I’M BORED (…& for children)…

The huge pool keeps most children happy for hours. There are also horses to ride and the working farm to explore with its ducks, pigeon, goats and huge gardens. Locally there is the beach club and one of the best stretches of beach in Puglia. During the peak summer months they run a Kids Club at the beach. There is also the Zoosafari Park nearby, riding at the Coccaro sister hotel. For older children there is quad biking locally, riding at the sister hotel next door or exploring the working farm – ducks and all!

CHILDREN’S CLUB…

The beach club runs a ‘Kids’ club of activities for children during the peak summer months. .
