Our Review

Sand, Sand, Delicious Sand (and good food).

For the majority of families and certainly all families of two or more young children the most important ingredient to a good summer holiday is sand glorious sand.  The hours of entertainment they can get from playing on it, in it and even eating it (that’s Bea’s favourite trick) are glorious moments of relaxation for any parent.  And so with its truly incredible beach with immaculately manicured sand and warm azure blue shallow sea we rate Sani Village as one of the best family hotels in Europe.  Ok – its not small but as we have found out big can be beautiful to.  And with so much on offer there is something for everyone.

We have been aware of the Porto Sani for sometime but until visiting it we didn’t really understand its makeup.  To start with it is in the middle of the countryside and not in a town as we had previously thought.  The owner, Anastasios Andreadis, found an incredible stretch of beach (up to 7 kms to be precise) in the rural Halidiki peninsular and decided to build a hotel on the hill on one side of the bay.  It worked so well he decided to build a less expensive option (Sani Beach Hotel) on the other wise of the bay.  He then added a chic little Marina in the middle (all this with grassy meadows stretching away behind).   The Marina worked so well he built the Sani Village of suites in little houses behind the Marina and added boutique shops, lots of restaurants and a mini supermarket around the edges of the Marina.  They then added the boutique Asteria suites (again little cottages) for the uber cool set and is now finishing by adding an outdoor theatre so that guests can see shows such as Mama Mia whilst on hols!  OK so it is something of a ‘canned’ environment but the beauty of this place is that the restaurants are all different and are often run independently, the food everywhere is good, the different hotels cater for different pockets.  When you head out at night and wander around the marina you aren’t going to get mugged or have restaurant barrow boys standing on the side trying to coax you in.  You can even pay at most places by just showing them you room key card.

We absolutely loved this place.  The beach is in front of the hotels so you don’t need to fight to pack everything into a car before heading off.  It the beach is stunning with lovely sun beds and beach service.  The water is calm, shallow and blue.  The kids club is independently run by a professional child care, Ofstead company.  At night you can walk straight out of your hotel with a buggy and down to the various restaurants either in your hotel or around the Marina.  It takes all the stress out of your holiday and lets you just enjoy yourselves.

Porto Sani Village: 103 rooms

After the Asteria Suites the Sani Village part of the Porto Sani is our favourite.  The all-suite village is made up of individual houses based around the marina and swimming pools.  The houses are divided into the suites (see room descriptions).  Guests staying in the Village are just next to the Marina and its restaurants and also have their own reserved area of beach.

Sani Beach Hotel: 205 rooms

Set at the far end of the cove and furthest from the main area.  This works for families who have older children and don’t need to be within short walking distance of the marina.  It has low-rise bungalow style rooms and is very popular and welcoming to families.

Sani beach Hotel: 475 rooms

The largest of the hotels  rooms and one that looks like a classic style hotel.  It was their 4* option but they have now upgraded the hotel to 5*.  It works very well for larger families who have a lower budget and like the anonymity that a big hotel can give.
