Our Review

This simply gorgeous ‘bush villa’ is the ultimate way to safari. No need to wait for others, no one else to complain about the noise your brood are making, meals of what you want – where you want - when you want. And most importantly your own guide and car so you don’t need to go out at set times, if your children get tired you can come home early or if like us the children need to eat at 5 pm – feed them first and then go out on a game drive (not like the usual 3.30 start). And as children are a speciality here the camp is fully fenced for their safety. The concept of Morokuru is ‘home from home’. Whilst you are in the bush this is your house to do with as you want. It is beautifully designed, contemporary in feel and with all the bits and bobs you need to make you feel at home. The heated swimming pool is surrounded by decking and sunloungers and has a shallow end for children as well as good shade. You can see almost all the deck from the sunbeds so there is no need to move to keep an eye on your children. Lunch is served al fresco on the deck overlooking the river or for that matter where ever you want it. We suggest opting for the hide on one day which overlooks the waterhole. When we were there we had lunch whilst 10 elephant swam in the water beside us! But the best thing for us was the staff. They are ‘out of this world’ charming. Your butler caters to your every whim with a smile and a genuine will to please. I hadn’t even considered my tea at breakfast might be too cold, after sitting there for 10 minutes, until our butler refused to let me pour another cup before it had been refreshed! And the cook is not only a genius but also takes the children off to bake cupcakes or cookies during the day. The lodge is made up of three different houses, Owners (2 bedroomed) Guest (3 bedroomed and a study bedroom for 2 children) and Farm House (5 bedroomed). All have heated pools and are fully staffed. For us the best for a family with young children is Guest as the outside decking area is all in one place and it is easier to keep an eye on them. Owners has more quirky little decks heading over the river and around the house and Farm House has separate bedrooms (no interleading rooms). ON SAFARI Which ever of the three lodges you are staying at comes with a landrover, guide and tracker. They are there just for you. Like most camps the normal drive times are suggested from 06.30 – 10.00 am and in the evening from 3.30 – 7.00 pm. But as it is only you in the car you may want to have a later start or even skip the morning drive completely and go out after a leisurely breakfast instead. And being on private land bordering the park, there are no gates or fences between here and the park, means that you can drive in the park but the park lodges can’t drive on your land. They also have more freedom for night drives, guided walks, bush breakfasts and dinners and anything that you really want to do. They also have a huge fenced area for walks with children where only non dangerous game roam and you can spend time being taught by the guide all about the insects, birds and fauna in the bush but in a safe environment.

Rooms

Total: 10 rooms over 3 houses

  • Owners House – 2 Double Bedrooms.
  • Guest House – 3 Double Bedrooms and a study with two small beds for children.
  • Farm House – 5 Double Bedrooms. All have beautiful main rooms, great outdoor dining areas and heated pools and are fully staffed.
  • FAMILY ROOMS… The best house for families with young children is Guest house as the outside decking is all in once place and it is easier to keep an eye on them but you could put children in any of the rooms. The bedrooms in the Farmhouse are all separate so not suitable for young children. Owners has lots of decking that might be a bit tricky with young children.
  • Things to do

THINGS TO DO FOR ADULTS...Evrything your child does if you want.  There are game drives, bush walks, fishing safaris, birdwatching, swimming pool, massages.

I’M BORED (for children) ... There is plenty to do for children, aside from going on safari your guide and host will come up with ideas to entertain your children from baking to fishing and bug finding. Children are given a great backpack on arrival filled with all sorts of goodies, the spoor guide was a firm favourite with Inca who quickly learnt to track like an expert!

CHILDRENS CLUB...There is Morukuru Kidz which is all about letting the kids hve fun! There are indoor activities, DVD's and dedicated rangers who will join your children on game drives and fishing excursions and teach them everything fun about the bush.

    Useful Stuff

SUITABLE FOR…All ages. Exclusive use safari vehicle means even the youngest guests can go out on safari.

  • ON SAFARI…Each of the three lodges is exclusive use which means it comes with its own Landover, guide and tracker. While early morning and late afternoon are the best times to see game the decision is entirely yours – you can discuss with your guide as to what suits your family.
