Our Review

Royal Madikwe is a treat – seafaring at it best and most luxurious. This incredible lodge can fit ten adults and a few more children on an exclusive use basis. When you are there everything is included including a great wine list which their sommelier will chat you through before lunch and dinner. It is also his job to make sure your cocktails are shaken not stirred (or visa versa) and that you are met off your game drive with a glass of chilled champagne. And for children there are few better places. You dictate the speed of the day, when you want to eat, when you want to go out and what you would like to do. Children are given a great childrens back pack on arrival filled with all sorts of goodies and the host’s are great at entertaining children with lots of great ideas activities including t-shirt painting, African beading and jewellery making, bush baking and face painting to name just a few. Our girls loved having their faces painted, Inca was adamant she wanted to be a Zebra which was beautifully done and anyone with a three year old can imagine how excited Inca was to go on safari as a Zebra and to spot another Zebra! Parents are not forgotten though and incredibly spoilt, you have a butler, chef, waiter, guide and tracker all to cater for your every whim. And they take this job very seriously. They spend their days coming up with more amazing places to eat, stunning ways to have a sun downer or breakfast in the bush. In fact just about everything to make your stay unforgettable. I particularly enjoyed being met off our safari with a glass of champagne (and of course hot chocolate for the girls). The lodge is one of the most stunning in the park with huge decks, a lawn and swimming pool for children to play around, gorgeous rooms and the Royal Suite which is a huge self contained cottage that you make your home. The Royal suite even has a bath on its deck so you can soak in the tub whilst watching lions below you (total safe of course because the camp is surround by a security fence). On Safari You have your own vehicle guide and tracker so you are completely flexible on timings. There is also no age limit for children as you have the car to yourselves. Your guide will help point out things which are of interest to children including birds, plants, tree and tracks as well as all the game. Rooms The childrens suite in the main house is best for young children with two single beds (and more possible) and lots of toys – there is also an adjoining double room ideal for an older sibling or nanny if you decide to travel with one. The separate Royal Suite is also great for families. Very contemporary in design, it has two separate bedrooms, a large dining room and a kitchenette. Upstairs it also has a viewing deck and TV room. And best of all is its huge outdoor deck with plunge pool and a free standing bath looking out over the water hole below.
