    Family Holidays in Portugal

Beautiful sandy beaches and year round sunshine make Portugal a wonderful family destination. If you have children of under school age and can go before the summer holidays you can still get great weather but without any of the crowds. While it can get busy in Peak season, the long beaches and beautiful unspoilt countryside mean you can always escape from the crowds if you want to. Portugal has an old fashioned charm with medieval castles and beautiful old villages scattered through the stunning countryside. If you want more than just sun and beach there is also great shopping, lovely towns to visit, great restaurants and some of Europe’s best Golf Courses.

This relatively recent addition to the exclusive club of luxury European family hotels is a real winner.  Set overlooking a long sandy beach and surrounded by National Park this ‘village’ hotel combines villas and a hotel to cater for any family type.   Choose between 1 – 4 bedroomed villas and apartments or stay in the main hotel.  All have access to the restaurants, kids club, pools and activities on offer.  And best of all – the beach is just in front of the hotel.

Villas are great for families by offering more space and flexibility than most hotels – however it can end up feeling not much like a holiday if you are still spending a lot of your time shopping, cooking and cleaning. The Pine Cliffs Residence offer all the benefit of a villa but none of the hassles. With a choice of two or three bedroom residences a family of up to six is easily accommodated with extra beds possible if needed. The Pine Cliffs is part of the Sheraton Algarve and therefore guests at the Pine Cliff can take advantage of all the facilities the hotel has to offer including the numerous restaurants and excellent Porto Pirata children village. To top this off at the bottom of the cliff is the longest stretch of golden sand beach in all of Portugal.

    When to Travel

From early May to the middle of October tends to be the best time to visit.  As with all Mediterranean destinations August can be very hot and therefore probably not ideal for very young children.  May, June and September are wonderful months to visit when the days are lovely and warm and the school holiday crowds aren’t around.

    Kids

Short flight times, no jet lag and lovely long wide beaches mean that Portugal has always been a popular family destination.  There are a number of fantastic family focused hotels which offer traditional hotel rooms or villas for those who want to be a bit more independent.  As with most European hotels food is very children friendly and the classic staples are on all children’s menus.  The Algarve also has plenty of activities to keep all families entertained.  It is worth noting that the sea is the Atlantic so will be slightly cooler than you might find in the Mediterranean.

    Suggested Itineraries

We know it is often difficult, with the huge number of hotels out there, to know which one to go for, which combines with which and what sort of costs they are going to be. Here we have put together a few of our favourite options to give you a starting point. Any of these options can be changed, tweeked or added to so please do ask. The prices are per person and include international flights and private transfers. As the rates at all hotels change a great deal from their High Seasons (i.e the most popular times of the year to be there) to their Low Seasons (they often have great discounts at this time) we have based the 'From' costs on a good time of year to be in the country, the dates are included in the text at the bottom. Please do call us for a quote based on your dates.
